Thornbury Nursing Services provide the highest quality workers to our service users and clients by ensuring that each and every nurse, midwife, HCA, ODP and paramedic meet a very specific recruitment and skills criteria, above and beyond standard expectations.
If you are unable to provide evidence of your competency updates, you are welcome to join the voluntary courses provided by Thornbury. This study day incorporates manual handling, basic paediatric and adult life support, anaphylaxis and automated external defibrillation. It’s a rolling program that takes place throughout the year and is available at all our locations.
Evidence of the above competencies is essential to remain compliant with Thornbury and is required to be updated on an annual basis. If you need to provide updated evidence of competency, or discuss available course dates please call the RTC Team on 0345 120 5251. Our courses are part-funded by Thornbury and so there will only be a small fee to attend.
If you need to increase or just refresh your current skills and knowledge and do not have time to attend a classroom study day then take a look at the online courses we have on offer.
We are currently able to offer voluntary online courses through several CPD companies. Below is more information on the online courses you can access.
If you are interested in any of these course or would like more information, call the RTC team on 0345 120 5251.

Here’s what our nurses say:
“ I joined Thornbury Nursing when I took early retirement from the NHS. After 37 years of mandatory training with my “then” NHS employer, I have just attended my 2nd annual training (provided by Able 2 Train on behalf of Thornbury). It is “without doubt” the best training for BLS & manual handling that I have ever attended. ”
“ I feel more confident with this update training. Accessing regular update training with Thornbury has enabled me to be more quick thinking & competent. ”
“ When I joined Thornbury I enrolled in their manual handling and BLS training. I found the training brilliant: better than any I’d had for years. It was really useful to be able to practice using the defibrillator on a manikin. As a practice nurse, I feel better equipped to resuscitate a patient should I ever be required to. ”
