I was working a lot of nights and unable to move into a community role in my unit because of short staffing on my ward.
It’s the best move I have ever made – I’ve never looked back! I started as a placement coordinator, worked my way up to Director of Operations, and have recently moved into the role of Director of Resourcing and Recruitment.
My role is forever changing, which keeps things very varied and interesting.
I work with a great bunch of people, both internally and those who represent us working for the agency, and I find it very rewarding knowing we are providing experienced and high-quality staff to clinical areas that may otherwise have to go without.
Knowing that we are sending staff at short notice who can hit the ground running, able to work as one of the team. As a nurse I know what it’s like to have staff shortages on my ward – yet knowing a Thornbury nurse was coming along always reassured me. They were far more able to support us than many nurses from other agencies, who were often just sent as an extra pair of hands, and unable to deal with many of the tasks.
Our ability to provide staff at very short notice. While many agencies claim to charge less and pay similar, only Thornbury can deliver high quality staff when no one else can.
Life’s too short – regret the things you do, as opposed to the things you wish you had done.
