Advance shifts – FAQs

We’re excited to introduce our new Advance shift booking feature. This new option gives you more control over your schedule, allowing you to plan ahead with ease. Below are some frequently asked questions about Advance shifts.

If your question isn’t answered here, please get in contact and we’ll be happy to answer your questions.

Who can book Advance shifts?

During our launch phase, Advance shifts are available to medical/surgical, A&E, ITU/HDU and paediatric nurses and general HCAs, registered with Thornbury and working in Wales.

Can I still work last-minute shifts?

Absolutely! You can book both Advance and last-minute shifts to maximise your time and earnings.

How much will Advance shifts pay?

Pay rates will be displayed on the shift card within Quick Nurse, similar to last-minute shifts. Advance shifts have a revised rate, reflecting the notice period and lower cost to clients.

Why aren’t travel expenses covered for Advance shifts?

Given the convenience of planning ahead and the reduced costs for clients, travel expenses are not covered for Advance shifts. They remain payable on last-minute shifts.

What uniform should I wear?

Some health boards are happy for you continue wearing your Thornbury Nursing uniform for Advance shifts, but others need you to wear a plain tunic due to contractual requirements. Please carry your TNS ID badge to all shifts.

Will Thornbury continue to offer last-minute shifts?

Yes, we will always provide last-minute solutions for our clients.

How will I be paid?

Your payment process remains unchanged. Submit your timesheets via Quick Nurse as usual. Working both types of shifts through one employer means only one tax code!

Why is Thornbury offering this service?

We’re expanding our offerings to meet the needs of both clients and nurses. Advance shifts provide the same high-quality service, with the benefit of more notice.

We’re able to offer this now as we have a piece of technology available allowing our clients to independently request shifts without the help of our call centre teams. This reduces our costs and allows us to offer clients a more competitive rate.

Who do I contact if I’m running late or can’t attend a shift?

For urgent inquiries, please call our dedicated line at 0345 120 5305. For all other queries, use our Live Chat on Quick Nurse.

Can’t find shifts close to home?

We strive to offer a variety of shifts, but availability may vary. Keep checking Quick Nurse for the latest opportunities.
