What does an ITU nurse do?
- Administering medications through intravenous injections or via gastric tubes
- Regularly informing doctors, patients, and their families about the patient’s progress. Conducting authorized diagnostic or therapeutic procedures based on the patient’s clinical condition
- Reacting swiftly to medical emergencies and promptly informing the appropriate physicians
- Assessing the patient’s laboratory data and vital signs to determine any urgent intervention requirements
- Attending to the patient’s needs throughout their recuperation in the ICU
- Advocating for the requirements of both patients and their families
- Providing emotional assistance to patients and their families
- Setting up and overseeing medical equipment and devices, including medical ventilators, and oxygen delivery devices etc.
- Assessing the patient’s pain level and determining the need for sedation
- Maintaining meticulous records of the patients
