Requirements

  • A valid NMC Pin
  • A willingness to work to our company expectations
  • A minimum of 12 months experience in the last 18 months, working in an intensive care setting (general, cardiac, neuro or burns)
  • The ability to work with critically ill and unstable level three patients, requiring inotropes and filtration

What does an ITU nurse do?

As an ITU nurse with Thornbury, your day-to-day tasks will depend on where you’re working, but can typically involve:

  • Administering medications through intravenous injections or via gastric tubes
  • Regularly informing doctors, patients, and their families about the patient’s progress. Conducting authorized diagnostic or therapeutic procedures based on the patient’s clinical condition
  • Reacting swiftly to medical emergencies and promptly informing the appropriate physicians
  • Assessing the patient’s laboratory data and vital signs to determine any urgent intervention requirements
  • Attending to the patient’s needs throughout their recuperation in the ICU
  • Advocating for the requirements of both patients and their families
  • Providing emotional assistance to patients and their families
