The 3 golden rules of agency nursing

Thought about becoming an agency nurse, but not sure you’ve got what it takes? Even with the flexibility and enhanced pay rates, it’s not for everyone. We’ve highlighted three golden rules of becoming a successful agency nurse.

1. Be open to change

As an agency nurse you will be working in different hospitals on a daily basis, so you will need to learn how to adapt to new locations, practices and people very quickly. If you like the idea of working in different places and can adapt to new settings quickly, then agency work is for you!

2. Be confident to work alone or as part of a new team

The confidence to work independently or with new teams is a key attribute of agency nurses. You’ll be working in different places, with different people on a weekly basis. Choosing agency work allows you to meet nurses and other health professionals who you may never have otherwise met. This is a great opportunity to learn from new people and expand your professional network – you’ll probably make some really good friends along the way too!

3. Be flexible

Agency work can be unpredictable, and you don’t tend to get much notice so it’s super important that you’re flexible and willing to work at short notice. At Thornbury, clients rely on us at very short notice, so we expect our nurses to be available as soon as we pick up the phone. If you’re flexible and willing to work in new places, you can expect to receive high rates of pay in return.

If you think agency nursing is for you, register with Thornbury today. We’d love for you to join the team!
