In a midwifery job with Thornbury Nursing Services, you will work temporary shifts for a range of different healthcare providers. Although these shifts are often last-minute, we expect the standard of care to remain high. Therefore, you must be recently experienced. Once you’re registered with us, we offer training opportunities to enhance your skills and stay up to date with best practices.

What does a midwife do?
In a midwife job, you are an expert in childbirth. Your role covers providing care and support to women and their families during pregnancy, labour and after the baby has been born. Responsibilities may include:
- Delivering babies
- Providing parenting classes
- Identifying high-risk pregnancies
- Teaching new mothers how to care for their babies
Depending on whether you are working in a hospital or community setting, your role may slightly differ. Good communication skills are important as a midwife as some women and families you care for could have different circumstances, for example they could be homeless, have disabilities or be from unique cultural backgrounds.
