National Work Life Week

We’re celebrating National Work Life Week with our workers, by asking them to share how the flexibility at Thornbury has improved their work-life balance and quality of life.

“I never intended to become an agency nurse but, after feeling stressed-out, over-worked and under-appreciated in my previous job, I knew I needed a change. So, I decided to join Thornbury in the interim whilst I ‘gathered my thoughts.’ Eight years later, I can say working for Thornbury has been the best decision I have made. I work part-time, I’m not stressed anymore, and I can be off when I want to be. I have a brilliant work-life balance with enough time to do the things that make me happy, such as: doing my garden, enjoying nature and participating in volunteer work. Thornbury is always supportive and professional, and I look forward to many more years of nursing for Thornbury!” – Rachel

“Working for Thornbury has given me many opportunities. I can fit shifts around my permanent job, and I love the flexibility Thornbury provides. The flexibility has allowed me to achieve a perfect work-life balance.” – Kimberley

“I have been working with Thornbury for around 15 years. The staff and management are always very supportive. I get paid within the same week I worked my shift, which makes me feel financially supportive for my family and helps me achieve a better work-life and balance. I’m also able to stay up to date with training. Working with Thornbury has allowed me to live better.” – Fawzia

“I have regained a work-life balance with Thornbury. I have time to spend with friends and family, and I no longer feel like a terrible parent for constantly being at work, shattered or irritable.” – Helen

“My daughter was poorly with a ruptured appendix when she was seven years old. Working for Thornbury meant there was no issue with me staying with my child for those 11 days. Working for Thornbury has been the best thing I’ve ever chosen to do. There is no way I would ever go back and give up the freedom and control of my work-life balance.” – Helmut

“Since working for Thornbury, I now have a lovely work-life balance which means I can manage time spent at and outside of work. Time outside of work means I can manage relationships, family responsibilities, and other interests and hobbies. Having a better work-life balance means I have a better quality of life.” – Rosemarie

“Thornbury has put me in the driving seat of my work pattern. It has allowed me to spend more time at home with my partner and dog in Somerset. The flexibility has allowed me to also spend more time and energy with my friends and family. I have more energy at work now because of the flexibility and my health has significantly improved by being more in control of when I work.” – Lauren

“Since joining Thornbury, I have been able to work less and earn more which means I have more time for myself and my family. Thank you, Thornbury.” – Olushola

“Thanks to the flexibility at Thornbury, I have been able to do my Masters in Public Health part-time. Thornbury makes me feel part of a team and the flexibility suits my needs. I always feel respected and valued compared to other places I have worked.” – Cidalia

“I get to work when I want, compared to being on a shift roster. The flexibility at Thornbury means I get to see my kids and family more, have more time for hobbies, and I’m able to go on holidays and trips away. This makes me more motivated and more productive!” – Henry

“As a father of four, working for Thornbury means not only did my pay increase, but I also have more time to look after my family. I have recommended many colleagues to Thornbury as a great place to work. I can balance work and family life at the same time and I couldn’t ask for more.” – Jules

“The flexibility at Thornbury means I can work around my children. I can drop them at school and nursery in the mornings and be with them during the school holidays. Something I wouldn’t have been able to do before Thornbury.” – Gemma

“Since working for Thornbury, I’ve had a better work-life balance. I’m able to be around my kids more. I’m working less than before but earning twice as much!” – Inderjit

“Since I joined Thornbury, I have had a better work-life balance. I’m now able to pick up shifts that suit me and work around my needs of spending more time with my family and kids. The flexibility of being able to choose when and where I work is what I love about Thornbury.” – Olawale

“I joined Thornbury for the flexibility and to reduce my working hours for when I retire. I get to choose when I work and the shifts I want to work, which gives me a better work-life balance.” – Carol

“My dad passed away halfway through training as a nurse. As my mum wasn’t working, I had to sacrifice training to help pay the bills. Luckily someone introduced me to Thornbury, which meant I could carry on training as a nurse and work as a HCA for Thornbury to pay the bills. The flexibility and great pay rates saved my career. Thank you, Thornbury.” – Alexandra

“I can work less with Thornbury and earn more, which means I no longer have to work weekends and can spend them with my partner instead. We are also expecting a child, so I know I’ll be able to spend more time at home as a mum as I’ll be able to pick the days I work.” – Helen

“There’s less stress working with Thornbury. I get time to rest and recharge before a full day at work which is important. I believe a healthy work-life balance is great for your mental health and great for your patients! You can’t look after your patients if you’re not looking after yourself.” – Rajesh
